Sabrina Carpenter dropped her long-awaited album Short n’ Sweet this Friday, and she found a perfect way to celebrate its release. She dropped a gory music video for her latest single “Taste”, which is filled with Death Becomes Her references and stars Jenna Ortega.
Directed by Dave Meyers, the cheeky visual shows Carpenter and Ortega literally fighting for the attention of the same guy. They use all sorts of different weapons, from machetes and shotguns to voodoo dolls and chainsaws, but the video eventually ends with the two women attending their ex’s funeral and burying their feud along with him.
Death Becomes Her starring Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn was the clear source of inspiration for this music video, but cinematic references are sprinkled throughout. “Taste” also pays homage to Psycho, Addams Family Values, Ginger Snaps, and Kill Bill through its murder scenes and costume choices.
“Taste” was released as the third single from Carpenter’s sixth studio album Short n’ Sweet, which hit the shelves on August 23. Its release was preceded by two hit singles – “Espresso”, which became the singer’s first song to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify, and “Please Please Please”, her first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
