Fans lost it when DreamWorks announced they’re plotting a live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon, and they’ve finally given us a taste of things to come. The first trailer for this long-awaited remake is finally here, and it sees Hiccup and Toothless embarking on an epic adventure.

How to Train Your Dragon will take us to the rugged isle of Berk, where a young Viking Hiccup (Mason Thames) defies centuries of tradition by befriending a Night Fury dragon Toothless, challenging the very foundations of the society he grew up in.

“As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader,” reads its official logline.

This film is a shot-for-shot remake of the animated film of the same name, loosely based on Cressida Cowell’s hit book series. Dean DeBlois, who served as the director of the original How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, returned as a director of the live-action version.

How to Train Your Dragon will be released by Universal Pictures on June 13, 2025, and it marks DreamWorks Animation’s first live-action film.
