Phoebe Bridgers has returned with her first solo album in six years, and according to the report, the wait has produced her most expansive work yet. Lost Weekend arrives after a stretch in which Bridgers reached a new level of visibility with boygenius, and the album reflects both the distance she’s traveled and the emotions she’s carried along the way. Across 16 songs, she moves through disappearance, romance, sorrow, and flashes of humor, balancing heaviness with the sharp wit that has long defined her writing.

The record also shows Bridgers pushing her sound in new directions. With Jack Antonoff contributing synth-heavy textures, the opener leans into vocoder effects, while other passages draw on ambient music and Radiohead-like experimentation. On tracks such as “Panorama,” she lets the arrangement speak first, and elsewhere she leans into dramatic bursts of feeling, including the triumphant “As Above,” which she had already previewed live earlier this summer. The album is filled with recurring images tied to sleep, chemicals, and hospitals, giving the project a dreamlike but uneasy atmosphere.

At the same time, Lost Weekend is deeply personal. The report says the death of Bridgers’ father in 2023 hangs over several songs, including “Still Standing,” “Lost Weekend (Reprise),” and “Never Going Back!,” where a voicemail from him adds to the emotional weight. But the album is not only about loss. It also finds room for joy, especially in songs connected to her relationship with comedian Bo Burnham, and in tracks that reflect on the strange contradictions of success. The closing reprise ties the album together with one of Bridgers’ most striking lines, reinforcing her reputation as one of the most compelling songwriters working today.

Barry Manilow’s Lexington concert was postponed just before the audience was set to enter Rupp Arena, according to a statement posted to the singer’s social media. The message said the show had been rescheduled because of “unforeseen circumstances,” though no further explanation was given.

The venue later said that fans who already bought tickets will be able to use them for the new date, which has not yet been announced. Local outlet Lex News reported that this is the second time Manilow has had to move the Lexington stop. He had previously been scheduled to perform there on March 9, but that show was also pushed back while he recovered from lung cancer.

Despite the Lexington change, Manilow is still listed to perform in Cincinnati on Wednesday. His recent touring plans have been affected by health-related delays after he announced in December that he would undergo surgery to remove a cancerous spot on his lung. He was originally set to begin his 2026 farewell tour in January, but later postponed those dates, saying he needed more time to recover before returning to the stage.

Additional reschedulings followed, including his Las Vegas residency in February and March and the Northwest U.S. leg of the farewell tour that had been planned for April and May. Manilow is now cancer-free and has returned to touring, and he also released his first new album in nearly 15 years, What a Time. In a recent conversation with Rolling Stone UK, he said he has long wanted audiences to leave his shows feeling better than when they arrived.

Brooklyn has added a new tribute to one of its most distinctive rap voices. During a ceremony on July 26, Putnam Avenue in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood was officially co-named ODB Jones Way in honor of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, the Wu-Tang Clan co-founder whose real name was Russell Tyrone Jones.

The event brought together friends, family members, and local officials to mark the occasion. While Jones was born and raised in Fort Greene, his ties to Bed-Stuy remain especially meaningful. According to the report, his eldest brother, Ramsay Jones, said at the ceremony that the street sign was installed near the block where their grandmother still lives. That same block also features a mural based on the cover of Jones’ debut solo album, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.

The street naming comes more than two decades after Ol’ Dirty Bastard died of an overdose in 2004 at age 35. Since then, his life and legacy have been revisited in two documentaries: an unauthorized 2013 film that his estate tried to stop, and a 2023 A&E release made with his family’s approval.

The post Charli XCX Puts ‘Music, Fashion, Film (B-Sides Edition)’ on Streaming After Holding Back the Extras appeared first on .

]]>
Charli XCX has made an expanded version of her latest album available on streaming, even though she says the move was not exactly part of her original plan. On Sunday, Music, Fashion, Film (B-Sides Edition) appeared on iTunes, giving listeners access to three extra songs that had previously been reserved for fans who followed her side project online or bought physical editions.

The new tracks are “I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night,” “Playboy Bunny,” and “If You Take the Music Then What Has She Got?” According to the report, all three had already been shared through Charli’s @b.sides Instagram account and were also issued as actual b-sides on limited 7-inch singles tied to “Rock Music,” “SS26,” and “Camera.” They were additionally included in the physical box set for Music, Fashion, Film.

Charli says the songs were meant to stand apart

In an Instagram post, Charli explained that she viewed the b-sides as companion pieces to the album rather than part of its core tracklist. She said she had not intended to release them on streaming because doing so felt “counter intuitive” to the idea behind those songs, but added that she gave in because fans wanted them. She also joked that people could call her a hypocrite and said she hoped listeners would enjoy the “special songs.”

The iTunes version is priced at $4.99 and includes the album’s original 11 tracks, the three b-sides, and their music videos. Music, Fashion, Film, Charli XCX’s seventh studio album, arrived on Friday. In a recent Rolling Stone cover story, she spoke about the record as a follow-up to Brat and reflected on how her albums tend to work in contrast to one another. She also said she had no interest in making the same project twice.

Charli is set to support the album with a tour that will include festival appearances at Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Reading, Leeds, and more, along with arena dates such as Barclays in Brooklyn and the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

Cher Ordered to Cover Her Own $1 Million Legal Bill in Royalties Fight With Mary Bono https://magicmoments.com/cher-ordered-to-cover-her-own-1-million-legal-bill-in-royalties-fight-with-mary-bono/ Wed, 22 Jul 2026 10:08:54 +0000 https://magicmoments.com/cher-ordered-to-cover-her-own-1-million-legal-bill-in-royalties-fight-with-mary-bono/ Although Cher won the underlying royalties dispute, a judge has ruled she cannot make Sonny Bono’s widow reimburse the more than $1 million in legal costs she incurred.

The post Cher Ordered to Cover Her Own $1 Million Legal Bill in Royalties Fight With Mary Bono appeared first on .

]]>
Cher’s courtroom win in her long-running royalties dispute with Mary Bono has come with a costly catch: she will have to pay her own legal bill, which totals $1,023,605, according to the report.

A federal judge denied Cher’s request to have Mary Bono cover those expenses, ruling that the case was largely about contract issues rather than federal copyright law. That distinction mattered because the repayment rules Cher relied on did not apply, the report says. The decision follows a final judgment signed in late November 2025 that upheld the earlier ruling in Cher’s favor.

The dispute centered on Sonny Bono’s music rights

The feud stemmed from the rights tied to Sonny Bono’s compositions and the divorce agreement he and Cher reached in 1978. The judge previously found that Mary Bono could not use the federal Copyright Act to take back Cher’s 50 percent share of those royalties. He also ruled that Cher still has the right to receive her composition and record royalties directly, even after selling those rights to Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group in 2022.

Mary Bono had wanted to deal directly with Iconic and send payments through Sonny Bono’s estate without Cher being involved. She later challenged the ruling that Cher is entitled to half of the publishing royalties from Sonny and Cher’s 1960s hits, including “I Got You Babe” and “The Beat Goes On.” An appeals court has not yet ruled on that challenge.

The report notes that Cher, now 79, became famous performing with Sonny in the 1960s before building a solo career that brought her Grammy, Oscar and Emmy wins. After Sonny Bono died in a skiing accident in 1998, Mary Bono took over his estate. His music publishing interests became eligible for termination starting in 2018, which led Mary to notify publishers that she intended to reclaim certain rights.

Fans taking part in Liverpool’s long-running Magical Mystery Tour received an unforgettable jolt this week when Paul McCartney appeared unexpectedly beside their bus. According to the report, the Beatles legend was spotted in the car next to the tour vehicle while it was stopped at a red light, turning an ordinary sightseeing stop into a moment no one on board was likely to forget.

Tour driver and guide Neil Morton described the encounter as surreal, and said the passengers were stunned by the sight of McCartney. The surprise only grew when McCartney leaned out of his window and revealed that he was on a FaceTime call with Ringo Starr, giving the group a rare glimpse of two surviving Beatles in the same impromptu moment.

A fitting stop on a Beatles landmark tour

Starr later shared a photo of McCartney from the encounter on Instagram, pairing it with a caption that nodded to the tour’s name and the mood of the moment. The episode came during a trip that already carries strong Beatles history: Liverpool’s Magical Mystery Tour is dedicated to the band’s early years and takes visitors to places connected to their rise, including childhood homes, schools, Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, and the Cavern Club, where the group made its debut in 1961.

The tour has also been getting fresh recognition. Earlier this year, it was named the top attraction in the U.K. Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Things To Do awards. McCartney and Starr have also recently collaborated musically, releasing their first duet together in May, a track that appears on McCartney’s album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which looks back on his Liverpool upbringing.

Shania Twain got to check off a longtime wish on Friday night when she performed at Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern, the small Queen Street venue she had dreamed of playing for years. The country-pop star, who is usually associated with arenas and stadiums, delivered an intimate set in the 500-capacity room, leaning into a mix of familiar hits and songs from her upcoming album, Little Miss Twain.

According to the report, the sold-out underplay drew $40 tickets that disappeared within minutes and could not be transferred. A limited number of spots were reserved for contest winners, media, industry guests, and others, while fans outside could hear the show but could not see the stage, which sits deep in the back of the bar. Twain opened with “Come On Over” and “Any Man of Mine,” then told the crowd it felt like the “best night ever” and a full-circle moment after years of hoping to make it there.

The performance was built around autobiographical material tied to her upbringing in Timmins, Ontario, and to life in “the North.” Twain shared stories about her mother, father, truck, early driving experience, ripped blue jeans, and the idea of a fantasy man, all of which fed into the new material. She even repeated some verses after singing them with the band, wanting the audience to catch every line. Backed by a six-piece group that included four women and longtime music director Brent Barcus, Twain played guitar through most of the 75-minute set, which also included the rootsy “Dirty Rosie,” the soul-leaning “I’d Be Loving Me,” and the harmony-driven “Stranger Things.”

The Horseshoe itself added to the significance of the night. Now 78 years old, the venue has hosted a long list of artists over the years, from Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, and Willie Nelson to the Rolling Stones, the Ramones, Foo Fighters, and Bryan Adams. Twain also pointed to its history as a place tied to country music and to figures like Stompin’ Tom Connors, making her first appearance there feel especially meaningful.

Jennifer Finch, L7 Bassist, Dies at 59 After Brain Cancer Battle https://magicmoments.com/jennifer-finch-l7-bassist-dies-at-59-after-brain-cancer-battle/ Sun, 19 Jul 2026 09:26:02 +0000 https://magicmoments.com/jennifer-finch-l7-bassist-dies-at-59-after-brain-cancer-battle/ Jennifer Finch, the longtime bassist for L7, has died at 59 following a battle with brain cancer, according to the band.

]]>
Jennifer Finch, the bassist who helped define the sound and attitude of L7, has died at the age of 59 after battling brain cancer, the band confirmed. In a statement shared on Instagram, L7 said Finch passed away on Saturday and remembered her as a beloved bandmate, friend, and “fellow troublemaker” whose loss has left them heartbroken.

The group later described Finch as a fierce and original presence whose humor, creativity, and spirit played a major role in shaping L7. According to the report, her impact extended far beyond the band itself, touching music, art, and the many people who knew her personally or admired her work from afar.

A longtime presence in punk and rock

Finch had recently revealed that she was undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. What was first expected to be manageable with radiation became more complicated, leading to multiple surgeries and significant physical limitations that required extensive care. The report also notes that Finch had previously been diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011.

Because of her illness, Finch stepped away from L7’s planned U.S. leg of the Last Hurrah Tour and asked her bandmates to continue without her. L7 formed in 1985, and Finch joined in 1987, going on to become a key part of the band’s rise. She played on much of their Nineties-era run before leaving in 1996, later returning for the group’s 2015 reunion and appearing on the 2019 album Scatter the Rats.

Outside L7, Finch remained active in music and art. She played in OtherStarPeople and the Shocker, started Little Pusher Records, and worked extensively as a photographer. Friends and family had also launched a GoFundMe to help with treatment and recovery costs, while also supporting plans to preserve her work and finish a creative project that had been slated for release next year.

Dave Kendall, the British-born music writer and television host best known for creating and fronting MTV’s 120 Minutes, has died. According to the report, no cause of death was given. His friend Matt Pinfield, who later hosted the program, announced the news on Instagram, and Bangkok Post, where Kendall worked from 2017 to 2025, also published an obituary. He was 63.

Kendall began his career writing about music for publications in the UK and the U.S., including Melody Maker and Spin. In the 1980s, he moved to New York and joined MTV, where he worked for seven years as a writer, producer, presenter, and news reporter. He created 120 Minutes as a space for alternative music, and the show went on to become one of the most important outlets for the genre on television.

Launched in 1986, the program became closely associated with the rise of alternative rock in the mainstream. Kendall hosted it for three years and used the platform to spotlight acts such as Sonic Youth and Pixies. He also introduced the premiere of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in 1991, a moment that helped define the band’s breakthrough. Beyond MTV, Kendall hosted and co-produced Music Scoupe, worked in radio and DJing, and later moved into digital journalism, including some of the earliest online video streaming shows.

He eventually returned to television, then settled in Thailand and joined Bangkok Post. In his tribute, Pinfield described Kendall as a true believer who gave alternative music a home long before it became fully accepted by the mainstream, and praised the way he connected with artists and fans.

Held at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, the show matched the night’s sports awards with performances that kept the focus squarely on New York pride.

De La Soul opened the music portion of the evening, urging the crowd of athletes to get on their feet during a medley that included parts of “Stakes Is High” and “Run It Back!!” Slick Rick followed by starting his performance from the audience before moving to the stage for a shortened version of “La Di Da Di.”

Ghostface Killah then took over, beginning his set by saluting fellow Wu-Tang Clan members Raekwon and Ol’ Dirty Bastard with nods to “Ice Cream” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” before moving into “Cherchez LaGhost.” Fat Joe closed the show with “All the Way Up,” bringing the entertainment to a finish that fit the evening’s Knicks-heavy mood.

The award show also reflected the team’s recent success in its honors: Jalen Brunson won both Best Championship Performance and Best NBA Player, OG Anunoby’s late tip was named Best Play, and the Knicks were recognized as Best Team.

Shania Twain Brings Her Dream Toronto Dive-Bar Show to the Horseshoe Tavern https://magicmoments.com/shania-twain-brings-her-dream-toronto-dive-bar-show-to-the-horseshoe-tavern/ Sun, 19 Jul 2026 09:26:54 +0000 https://magicmoments.com/shania-twain-brings-her-dream-toronto-dive-bar-show-to-the-horseshoe-tavern/ Shania Twain finally played the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, mixing classic hits with new songs inspired by her Northern Ontario upbringing.

The annual ESPYs turned into a New York rap showcase on Wednesday, extending the celebration of the Knicks’ NBA championship with live sets from four hometown legends.
