Fans taking part in Liverpool’s long-running Magical Mystery Tour received an unforgettable jolt this week when Paul McCartney appeared unexpectedly beside their bus. According to the report, the Beatles legend was spotted in the car next to the tour vehicle while it was stopped at a red light, turning an ordinary sightseeing stop into a moment no one on board was likely to forget.
Tour driver and guide Neil Morton described the encounter as surreal, and said the passengers were stunned by the sight of McCartney. The surprise only grew when McCartney leaned out of his window and revealed that he was on a FaceTime call with Ringo Starr, giving the group a rare glimpse of two surviving Beatles in the same impromptu moment.
A fitting stop on a Beatles landmark tour
Starr later shared a photo of McCartney from the encounter on Instagram, pairing it with a caption that nodded to the tour’s name and the mood of the moment. The episode came during a trip that already carries strong Beatles history: Liverpool’s Magical Mystery Tour is dedicated to the band’s early years and takes visitors to places connected to their rise, including childhood homes, schools, Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, and the Cavern Club, where the group made its debut in 1961.
The tour has also been getting fresh recognition. Earlier this year, it was named the top attraction in the U.K. Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Things To Do awards. McCartney and Starr have also recently collaborated musically, releasing their first duet together in May, a track that appears on McCartney’s album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which looks back on his Liverpool upbringing.
