As the year 2025 arrived, the duo brought their signature blend of humor, heartfelt moments, and unforgettable entertainment to viewers across the country. Known for their on-air chemistry and candid exchanges, Cooper and Cohen kept the atmosphere light and festive as they rang in the new year.

The night kicked off with the familiar banter between the two hosts. Cohen, known for his playful teasing, couldn’t resist poking fun at Cooper’s dancing skills, which had viewers laughing along. Their easy camaraderie set the tone for what would be a lively and memorable evening. During the broadcast, Cooper took a more serious turn, sharing a personal reflection on his father, who passed away on January 5, 1978.

“There’s a lot of folks who are watching tonight who may not be out at some party … you might be alone or just with somebody else you love in your room or just by yourself,” he began, as People reported.

Cooper continued, “I just want to say that New Year’s Eve is a night that’s always been hard for me. My dad died five days after the new year, he died Jan. 5, in 1978. And I remember being 10 years old and watching New Year’s Eve celebrations that New Years, five days before he died, being filled with fear and feeling very much alone.”

The special also featured a variety of celebrity appearances and performances. Celebrities like Ralph Fiennes, Michael Ian Black, Amber Ruffin, and Diplo all made appearances, adding their own flair to the program. The musical performances were highlights of the evening, with Meghan Trainor and Shania Twain bringing energy and excitement to the celebration. The artists’ live renditions of their biggest hits brought festive cheer to the broadcast as the countdown to midnight neared.

A longstanding tradition on the CNN special involves Cooper and Cohen taking shots of tequila at the top of every hour, which continued this year, as Variety reported. The playful ritual has become a fan favorite, offering spontaneous and lighthearted moments that fans look forward to each year. Another surprise came when Grammy-winning rapper Lil Jon guided the hosts through a meditation session, providing a calm moment during the celebratory chaos of the night.
