Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate have been arrested in Miami after British authorities brought rape and sex trafficking charges against them, according to the report. The Crown Prosecution Service said on Saturday, July 18, that prosecutors had decided to proceed with additional offenses involving rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, and crimes connected to indecent images of a child.
Malcolm McHaffie, who heads the U.K. Special Crime Division at the CPS, said the new charging decisions came after police in Bedfordshire submitted more evidence. He said the case now involves seven alleged victims in total. The CPS also said the brothers were arrested by U.S. Marshals in Miami ahead of a bareknuckle boxing event they were expected to host, and that extradition proceedings to the U.K. are expected to begin in federal court early next week.
What the charges involve
According to the report, the CPS is moving ahead with 21 earlier charges and has added new counts tied to four more alleged victims. Those additional allegations are said to date from July 2010 through August 2017 in London. Andrew Tate, 39, now faces seven further counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 additional alleged offenses involving indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The CPS stressed that the criminal process is ongoing and that the brothers are entitled to a fair trial. McHaffie also urged people not to share material online that could affect the proceedings. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, told The Associated Press that he had not yet spoken with the brothers but said they deny wrongdoing and intend to fight the case. The Tate brothers, who hold both U.S. and British citizenship, have previously been involved in international legal disputes, including a separate sex trafficking case in Romania that later fell apart amid claims of legal and procedural problems.
