Bob Dylan Adds Memphis Guitarist Jad Tariq to His Touring Lineup in Cincinnati

Bob Dylan’s live lineup shifted again on Friday, when Memphis guitarist Jad Tariq made his debut with the singer’s touring band at the PNC Pavilion in Cincinnati. Tariq filled in for Julian Lage, who had recently joined the group himself after replacing Doug Lancio.

The latest change adds another name to Dylan’s ever-changing guitar roster. Since Lage came aboard, he has missed several shows because of earlier touring obligations, leaving Joel Paterson to cover guitar duties alone on some nights after Paterson joined following Bob Britt’s departure in late June. Lage returned for the July 6 concert in Minnesota, but was out again for the July 10 show, prompting Dylan to bring in Tariq for the second-guitar spot.

According to the report, Tariq is now the 36th guitarist to perform with Dylan. It is not yet clear whether his Cincinnati appearance marked a one-time substitution or the start of a longer run with the band. Dylan is scheduled to continue his tour in Pittsburgh on Sunday night, and the lineup for that show has not been announced. Even with the personnel changes, the set list has stayed steady over the past few weeks, with Dylan playing the same 15 songs each night and alternating between “I Shall Be Released” and “Every Grain of Sand” as the closer.

There is also more touring ahead: Dylan is set to begin a European run in October, while Lage has North American dates booked around the same time.
