Elon Musk has weighed in on the growing buzz around The Odyssey, saying his AI platform Grok Imagine will produce a full-length movie based on Homer’s ancient poem before the year is over. In a post on X, Musk described the planned project as both “historically accurate” and faithful to Homer’s original work.
The comment came alongside an AI-generated short version of The Odyssey that was shared by another X user. Musk’s post suggested the longer film would arrive by the end of 2026, placing it squarely in the current awards-season conversation.
A bold promise around an ancient epic
The idea of a “historically accurate” take on The Odyssey is likely to raise eyebrows, given that the story includes cyclops, a six-headed monster and a witch who turns sailors into pigs. The poem is nearly 2,800 years old and is generally regarded as a work of fiction, making any claim of literal historical accuracy difficult to square with the source material.
The report also notes that Musk has been outspoken about the film world’s handling of The Odyssey before Christopher Nolan’s version was released. He previously criticized casting choices and singled out Lupita Nyong’o’s involvement as Helen of Troy. Musk had also amplified transphobic posts related to Elliot Page, who was later confirmed to be playing Sinon.
Even so, Nolan’s The Odyssey has become a major box-office success for Universal. The film opened to $264 million worldwide and is now expected to keep building momentum, with the studio and the director looking positioned for a major commercial win.
