Jennifer Stone is looking back on her return to the Wizards universe with a mix of gratitude and emotion. In an exclusive interview ahead of the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place series finale, the actress said she had originally assumed there would be no role for Harper Finkle in the reboot, especially after being told the new story centered on a different family. That changed when she was invited to appear in the finale, giving longtime fans a chance to see the character again.
Stone said her main concern was protecting Harper’s legacy. She wanted the character to feel true to the version viewers grew up with, rather than being turned into a punchline or treated carelessly. According to Stone, the episode showed Harper as confident and self-assured, which made the decision to come back feel right. She described the return as a way to honor a role she loved for years.
A bittersweet reunion behind the scenes
The finale also brought Stone back together with Selena Gomez, who played Alex Russo. Stone said seeing Gomez direct the episode left her emotional, and she remembered crying during the table read. She and Gomez even acknowledged to each other that this was probably the last time they would play Alex and Harper together. For Stone, the moment felt like both a farewell to the characters and a reminder of how much their lives have changed since they first worked together.
As for Harper’s future, Stone said the show left enough open that she has her own ideas about where the character might end up. She imagines Harper as someone who would thrive in a nurturing role, possibly teaching fashion at Parsons in New York or running her own fashion line. She was less certain about Harper’s romantic life, but said she could picture the character continuing to grow in ways that fit her generous personality.
