Universal Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest installment in the iconic dinosaur franchise. Set to hit theaters on July 2, 2025, the film introduces a fresh narrative and a new ensemble cast, aiming to rejuvenate the series.

Five Years Later

Directed by Gareth Edwards, known for his work on Godzilla (2014) and The Creator (2023), and penned by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, Jurassic World Rebirth is set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. The planet’s environment has become largely inhospitable to dinosaurs, confining the surviving creatures to isolated equatorial regions that mimic their ancient habitats. According to Entertainment Weekly, the plot centers on a covert mission to obtain genetic material from the world’s three most colossal dinosaurs believed to hold the key to a groundbreaking life-saving drug.

Scarlett Johansson leads the cast as Zora Bennett, a skilled covert operations expert tasked with leading the mission. Joining her are Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist, and Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, the team’s leader.

The trio embarks on a perilous journey that becomes even more treacherous when they encounter a civilian family stranded on an island teeming with mutated dinosaurs—remnants of failed experiments from the original Jurassic Park. “These dinosaurs were too dangerous for the original park,” Henry explains, “The worst of the worst were left here,” as reported by Slash Film.

Mysterious Mutant

The trailer offers a glimpse into the high-stakes adventure, showcasing intense action sequences and the formidable challenges the characters face. Notably, it hints at the presence of a mysterious new creature, described as a “menacing mutant housed in a red tank,” adding an element of suspense and intrigue to the narrative.

Jurassic World Rebirth also features performances by Rupert Friend as pharmaceutical representative Martin Krebs and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, the father of the stranded family. The supporting cast includes Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda as Delgado’s children, as well as Ed Skrein in an undisclosed role.

Scar-Jo’s Excitement

Scarlett Johansson revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that she had been eager to join the Jurassic Park franchise for years, often forwarding trade reports of new films to her agents in hopes of landing a role. “I was really crazy about the [original] film, and I slept in a ‘Jurassic Park’ pup tent in my bedroom I shared with my sister for a year,” Johansson said, reflecting on her deep love for the series. “Anytime the trades would report a new ‘Jurassic’ movie, I would forward to my agents like, ‘Hey, I’m available.’”

The film’s production took place across various locations, including Thailand, Malta, and the United Kingdom, from June to September 2024. With Steven Spielberg serving as an executive producer, the movie aims to blend the nostalgic elements of the original series with a contemporary storyline and characters.

Fans have expressed excitement over the trailer’s release, noting its blend of classic Jurassic Park suspense with modern action-adventure elements. The introduction of new characters and the promise of exploring uncharted territories within the franchise have further heightened anticipation for the film’s release.

Jurassic World Rebirth is poised to be a significant addition to the franchise, offering a fresh perspective while honoring its storied legacy. As the release date approaches, audiences can look forward to a thrilling cinematic experience that continues the saga of humans and dinosaurs coexisting in a world fraught with danger and discovery.
