New details are emerging about the final moments before Sara Gilson’s death. According to a report citing police dispatch information, a child who lived in the home placed a 911 call late on Thursday, July 23, and the dispatcher told first responders that a woman could be heard in the background “screaming and crying” while a loud bang was also heard.
The report says officers were sent to the Oklahoma home minutes later, where Gilson, 43, and her estranged husband, Shawn Duffey, were found dead after what authorities believe was a shooting. Duffey, 48, was also found dead at the scene. The call was reportedly made at 11:15 p.m., and officers arrived by 11:18 p.m.
What led up to the tragedy
Gilson, a hairstylist and TikTok creator with 69,000 followers at the time of publication, had publicly said two weeks earlier that her marriage was over and accused Duffey of pedophilia. In a July 11 video, she joked that she was “preparing” for a Netflix documentary about her soon-to-be ex-husband, adding that she had just learned he was a pedophile. She also wrote, “I wish I was joking.”
According to the report, Gilson had obtained a protective order against Duffey on July 10 on behalf of her minor daughter. The order reportedly required Duffey to stay 100 yards away from Gilson and barred him from the family home. The report also says Gilson had accused him of kissing and touching her daughter, and that another coach allegedly witnessed some of the behavior. The child allegedly described further inappropriate conduct, including messages, an invitation to Duffey’s hotel room during a tournament trip, and an offer of money to keep quiet. Gilson is survived by two children from a previous relationship.
