Sienna Spiro Brings ‘Great Expectation’ to ‘The Tonight Show’

Sienna Spiro made a late-night appearance on The Tonight Show to perform “Great Expectation,” delivering the song with a live band and two backing singers. The British artist leaned into the track’s dramatic feel, offering a performance that matched the single’s moody, emotional tone.

The song appears on Spiro’s debut album, Visitor, which was released earlier this month. A music video for “Great Expectation” also arrived on the day the album came out, and the visual approach mirrors the setup of her television performance, including the red-and-white backdrop.

The story behind the song

According to the report, Spiro said “Great Expectation” was inspired by a period when she was living in New York and speaking with someone who repeatedly said they would come see her. She described imagining that person waiting outside her building each morning, then spending time walking and thinking through what she would say if they were actually there.

She added that the song gradually became less about that specific person and more about expectation itself, and whether it can feel beautiful or simply set someone up for disappointment. Spiro said she wrote it with the understanding that the person would never be what she wanted, and that holding onto the idea of him felt safer than facing nothing at all. This was not her first time on the show either; she previously performed “Die on This Hill” on The Tonight Show in January, when Jimmy Fallon praised her on air.
