Teyana Taylor is reflecting on a major career moment after appearing with Jay-Z on the final night of his Yankee Stadium run. On Monday, she posted a message on Instagram thanking the rap icon a day after they performed together during the third and last night of his residency.
Taylor opened the “Extra Innings” show by stepping in for Mary J. Blige’s part on “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” the song from Jay-Z’s 1996 debut album Reasonable Doubt. In her post, she said the sound issues onstage were outweighed by the energy in the stadium, describing the gratitude in the room as stronger than anything coming through the microphones. She also said it meant a great deal to stand beside Jay-Z in Yankee Stadium in front of more than 40,000 people, calling the experience something her younger self would have never imagined.
The singer and performer added that she felt thankful to Jay-Z for inviting her to be part of what she called an iconic night, and said she would never take moments like that for granted. Jay-Z’s three-night Yankee Stadium celebration, held July 10, 11, and 12, marked anniversaries tied to Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint, along with an “Extra Innings” set for fans. Across the run, several high-profile artists joined him, including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Usher, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Pharrell Williams, Clipse, Alicia Keys, Eminem, and Nas.
